CLARK PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD REVIEWS GENERAL MANAGER’S PERFORMANCE, ADJUSTS SALARY

VANCOUVER, WA – June 6, 2017 – Following a performance review, Clark Public Utilities commissioners voted today to adjust General Manager Wayne Nelson’s salary by 3.7 percent from $270,000 to $280,000, effective July 1, 2017.

“This utility continues to set the standard across the country for customer satisfaction, safety and reliability, and rate stability,” said Jane Van Dyke, president of the Clark Public Utilities board of commissioners. “Mr. Nelson not only embraces the board’s commitment to these goals, but has created a culture at Clark Public Utilities where all employees are invested in doing what’s right for customers and our community.”

Mr. Nelson has served as General Manager of the utility since January 1999. In addition to the salary adjustment, the board also approved conversion of one hundred hours of accumulated sick leave to annual leave. Mr. Nelson’s car allowance of $400 per month remains unchanged.

“Not only is this an award-winning utility for customer satisfaction, it continues to operate with a small, streamlined team that responds to industry changes, market opportunities and technology innovations with flexibility and creativity,” said Van Dyke. “We recognize that achieving this level of excellence, while maintaining steady rates for six years, doesn’t happen by accident and deserves fair compensation.”

The utility consistently ranks highly in quarterly and annual surveys of customer satisfaction. For nine years in a row, Clark Public Utilities has ranked highest in customer satisfaction among mid-size electric utilities in the west by J.D. Power. The prestigious study measures all areas of the utility from system reliability to billing and from customer service to environmental stewardship and is an indicator of the efficiency and effectiveness of the utility compared to similar-sized organizations.
