Clark Public Utilities Board Approves General Manager’s Salary

VANCOUVER, WA – September 24, 2013 – The Clark Public Utilities commission voted today to adjust General Manager Wayne Nelson’s salary. After a careful review of Mr. Nelson and the performance of the utility under his leadership they unanimously agreed to increase Mr. Nelson’s salary by 4.2 percent, from $235,000 to $245,000.

The salary was set based on his performance and multiple salary surveys of comparable utilities in the region and across the country.

“Under the leadership of Mr. Nelson, Clark Public Utilities has been nationally recognized for its outstanding system reliability, stable rates and award-winning customer service,” said commission president Nancy Barnes. “He leads our talented staff, reflecting our community values of fiscal responsibility, strategic planning and environmental stewardship. Our community-owned utility is fortunate to have him directing this important work. The utility runs lean, with fewer employees and a lower operating cost per customer than any other utility in the state.”

Mr. Nelson has served as General Manager of the utility since January 1999.

For the sixth year in a row, Clark Public Utilities was ranked highest in customer satisfaction for mid-size utilities in the west by J.D. Power. The survey measures all areas of the utility from system reliability to billing and from customer service to environmental stewardship and is an indicator of the efficiency and effectiveness of the utility compared to similar-sized organizations.
