CLARK PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD REVIEWS GENERAL MANAGER’S PERFORMANCE, ADJUSTS SALARY

VANCOUVER, WA – August 21, 2018 – Following a performance review, Clark Public Utilities commissioners voted today to adjust General Manager Wayne Nelson’s salary by three percent from $280,000 to $288,400, effective July 1, 2018.

“Mr. Nelson has provided exceptional leadership of our public utility district for nearly 20 years,” said President of the Clark Public Utilities Board of Commissioners, Jim Malinowski. “Careful operation at every level of the utility has allowed us to avoid any rate increases since 2011 and put us in a position to credit customers back a total of $20 million in the last two years.”

Mr. Nelson has served as General Manager of the utility since January 1999. In addition to the salary adjustment, Mr. Nelson’s car allowance of $400 per month remains unchanged.

“The energy industry is complex and there are a multitude of variables that go into just keeping the lights on, let alone doing that while keeping costs down and continuing to provide stellar customer service,” said Malinowski. “This job requires a steady hand, the ability to effectively empower employees to do what’s right for customers and an eye to the future. Wayne has all these qualities and the board is committed to recognizing and rewarding success.”

The utility consistently ranks highly in quarterly and annual surveys of customer satisfaction. For eleven years in a row, Clark Public Utilities has ranked highest in customer satisfaction among mid-size electric utilities in the west by J.D. Power. The prestigious study measures all areas of the utility from system reliability to billing and from customer service to environmental stewardship and is an indicator of the efficiency and effectiveness of the utility compared to similar-sized organizations.
