Clark Public Utilities Receives J.D. Power and Associates Recognition for Electric Utilities Five Years in a Row

Customer-owned Utility Ranked Highest in Class for Customer Satisfaction

VANCOUVER, WA – July 11, 2012 – For the fifth consecutive year, J.D. Power and Associates recognizes Clark Public Utilities with highest customer satisfaction ranking for residential electric service among midsize electricity providers in the Western United States.

The J.D. Power and Associates study measures customer satisfaction with electric utilities by examining six key factors, which cover all areas of utility operations: power quality and reliability; price; billing and payment; corporate citizenship; communications and customer service. In all of these categories, customers gave Clark Public Utilities the highest score in the West midsize segment.

“I have served the customers of Clark Public Utilities as a commissioner for 30 years in an effort to make the utility a public agency we can feel fortunate to have in our community,” said Carol Curtis, president of the utility’s board of commissioners. “Today, Clark Public Utilities has set the benchmark for quality, reliable service and solid business practices, and other utilities are looking to us to learn how to serve customers better.”

J.D. Power and Associates designs and finances the study, a standardized measure of satisfaction available for the electric residential utility industry. More than 104,000 residential electric utility customers throughout the U.S. responded online to the study. Based on these responses, the study compared 126 electric utility brands, collectively serving over 93 million households.

“The industry is in a significant period of transition and it’s through these shifts that a focus on the customer makes all the difference. This group of employees operates every day with the best interest of Clark County at its core and I couldn’t be more proud to have watched the significant impact that commitment has made in the last three decades,” Curtis said. “It’s been a sincere pleasure to serve Clark County on the utility board and I am honored to have seen the organization achieve this distinct honor during my tenure.”

The West region covers Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, and Washington. Midsize utilities in the report serve between 125,000 and 499,999 residential customers.
