Dan Krebs Retires as Clark Public Utilities Director of Operations; Gene Morris Named Successor

Vancouver, WA, Feb.28, 2019 – Clark Public Utilities Director of Operations Dan Krebs retired today after serving just less than 40 years with the organization. CEO and General Manager Wayne Nelson named Gene Morris, previously the utility’s Safety Manager, as the next Director of Operations.

“To say that Dan will be missed is an incredible understatement,” Nelson said. “Despite the legacy Dan leaves, I’m entirely confident in Gene’s professional experience and commitment to continued operational excellence.”

The longest tenured Clark Public Utilities employee before his retirement, with 39 years and 10 months of service in 12 different roles across six different departments, Krebs has helped navigate the utility through more than half its history.

As Director of Operations, Krebs’s leadership was instrumental in the utility’s achievement of a rare perfect score in the American Public Power Association’s RP3 award evaluation for system reliability and performance. His careful cultivation of highly skilled employees who, whether working inside or in the field, each take to heart the utility’s focus on customer service has contributed to a series of industry accolades, including eleven prestigious J.D. Power awards for customer satisfaction.

Morris was named Director of Operations Feb. 18 and will now transition into the role as Krebs departs. Morris joined Clark Public Utilities three and a half years ago as a construction and maintenance superintendent before transitioning into the role of Safety Manager. In that role, he fostered a culture of heightened awareness and employee safety at all levels of the organization. Under his leadership, the utility was recognized by the National Safety Council for making significant improvements in company safety based on the Days Away Restricted Time rate, last year.

Morris holds Utility Management, Labor Law and Arbitration Certificates through Willamette University and the University of Oregon as well as an Advanced Safety Certificate. Prior to joining Clark Public Utilities, Morris worked as the Director of Safety, Environment & Labor Relations at Pacific Power.
