First Annual Race for Warmth to Raise Funds for Clark Public Utilities Operation Warm Heart, February 8, 2015

VANCOUVER, WA – January 21, 2015 – The inaugural Race for Warmth, a 5k walk/run and 10k run to benefit Operation Warm Heart, will be held Sunday, February 8 at the Clark Public Utilities downtown location. Registration is available online now at www.clarkpublicutilities.com and includes a t-shirt and race bag.

The first annual fun run/walk is hosted by Clark Public Utilities in partnership with Area Heating & Cooling. Every $30 registration for the event will help raise funds for local families in financial crisis struggling to pay winter heating bills.

“So many customers and employees of Clark Public Utilities support Operation Warm Heart with donations throughout the year, but the need in our communities continues to grow so this will help to boost awareness of the program and bring in additional funds,” said Maxie Lofton, Clark Public Utilities communications coordinator.

Starting with a free fun run for kids ages 5-8 at 8:30 a.m., the Race for Warmth will include a 10k timed race at 9 a.m. and a 5k run or walk at 9:15 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers in each category and all participants in the kids’ race will receive a prize.

The race route will take runners and walkers through the historic Fort Vancouver and along the Columbia River. Utility employee-volunteers will be staged along the course with refreshments (and encouragement).

“We see the benefit of the program first hand and know how important it is. The Race for Warmth will be a fun way to warm up our New Year’s resolutions while keeping the heat on for local families,” Lofton said. “So far the community has really rallied around this new event and our partners are helping to make it happen with all net proceeds going to Operation Warm Heart.”

Event partners include Area Heating & Cooling, New Tradition Homes, Columbia Credit Union, Northwest Personal Training, Chuck’s Produce, Brewed and Dirty Hands Brewing. Partnership opportunities remain for event prizes if businesses would like to be involved. Contact Maxie Lofton at [email protected] or 360-992-3599.
