PITCH IN AND PLANT TREES WITH CLARK PUBLIC UTILITIES, ANNUAL MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY, OPEN TO PUBLIC

– StreamTeam Celebrates National Day of Service with Volunteer Event, Oct. 22 –

VANCOUVER, WA – October 5, 2011 – Volunteers are invited to join Clark Public Utilities’ StreamTeam, in partnership with the Salmon Creek Watershed Council and the Northwest Fish Rescue Program, to celebrate the annual Make a Difference Day with stream side tree planting, entertainment and refreshments.

The event will kick-off with a coordinated planting effort, followed by a celebration of volunteer efforts and annual service awards including the StreamTeam Volunteer of the Year and Salmon Star awards.

“Make a Difference Day is a chance for us to bring our committed volunteers together and honor their service and dedication while welcoming new people who’d like to join our effort to bring salmon back to Salmon Creek,” said Ashley King, StreamTeam coordinator for Clark Public Utilities. “It’s also a great day to know we’re part of a national effort to give back to the community we live in.”

Community partners including Tommy O’s, Corwin Beverages, Starbucks, Frito Lay, Backyard Bird Shop, REI and Leatherman have donated refreshments and prizes for the event, live music will be provided by The Bottlecap Boys, Waste Connections will donate recycling and composting service  and the Northwest Wild Fish Rescue plans to release fingerling salmon.

When:             October 22, 2011. Registration at 8:45 a.m. for 9 a.m. planting, followed by lunch, live music and awards at noon.

Held rain or shine, the event will include on-site training and all tools and trees will be provided by the Clark Public Utilities StreamTeam. Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather. For more information, visit www.streamteam.net.
