What is Strategic Energy Management?
Strategic Energy Management (SEM) for commercial buildings helps you integrate energy management practices into your business. Going beyond simple point-in-time equipment upgrades, the Program focuses on continuous facility improvements in the form of no– and low-cost operations and maintenance improvements to your building or buildings.
While participants typically see energy savings of around 3 to 5% in the first year of program participation, those financial benefits deepen over time as the culture of commitment to energy reduction takes hold.
What are the benefits of Strategic Energy Management?
- Help manage your energy costs—while maintaining or improving standards of service and comfort
- Benchmarking your facility, so you can compare yourself to other similar facilities
- Complement your in-house sustainability program
- Improve lighting and air quality in your facility
- Receive free expert program technical support
- Receive financial incentives for measured electrical energy savings
What can I expect from program participation?
Through the SEM Program, Clark Public Utilities offers you direct technical support from the Program’s expert energy coaches. These coaches will help guide you through the Program and help you gain the knowledge to identify and implement energy management processes.
They will also help you establish energy reduction goals, develop an energy policy, create an energy management plan, and design occupant engagement strategies to increase awareness of energy use. Once you have your team making efficiency improvements, the Program will track energy savings and quantify available utility incentives for you.
Throughout Program participation, you will also be introduced to a cohort of other participating peer organizations in the area. In a series of regular Program workshops, usually spaced about a month apart, you will learn from the Program’s energy experts, share your energy management experiences, and receive additional resources and insights from your cohort.
