Board of Commissioners

A three-member board of commissioners is elected by the citizens of Clark County to set policy for the utility. Their six-year terms are staggered.

These are paid, part-time positions. Commissioners are paid $1,400 per month. The salary will increase to $1,800 per month after a commissioner has been elected or re-elected beginning in 2008. They also earn $90 a day while on utility business, up to a maximum of $12,600 a year. Commissioners also receive insurance benefits that the utility provides its regular employees, including medical, dental and vision coverage.

Commissioners set utility policy, approve annual budgets, establish rates, approve major purchases and select a general manager to run the utility. Board positions of president, vice president and secretary rotate every year.

Meetings of the board are typically held the second and fourth Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at the utility's Vancouver Service Center, 1200 Fort Vancouver Way. Special meetings can also be called on other days.

Agendas are available prior to meetings. Minutes of meetings are available in this section.
