Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program - LIHEAP
Clark Public Utilities has assumed responsibility for distributing grant money to residential customers who qualify for the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
In a single phone call to our toll-free number at 1-855-353-HEAT(4328), you can determine whether you meet some basic qualifications for assistance. If you do, you can set up an appointment to determine your eligibility for LIHEAP grants as well as for other utility and community assistance programs.
In taking over administration from Clark County in late 2002, the utility became the primary local energy assistance provider, a move that consolidates eligibility screening and may increase the number of customers who receive energy grants and similar aid.
About 2,500 to 3,000 Clark County households receive federal LIHEAP grants each year. Eligibility is based on factors such as income, household size and heating costs for your home. If you qualify for help, grant money is distributed directly to your heating provider on your behalf.
Grants to help with winter heating bills are generally offered through May, depending on available funds. But even if federal money runs out, you can still make an appointment with us to review other forms of energy assistance you may be eligible for.
