Water Q & A
Common water-related questions include:
Do you chlorinate the water?
Yes. State law requires that all water systems serving two or more
customers must be chlorinated.
Do you add fluoride to the water?
No fluoride or other chemicals, other than the required level of
chlorination, are added to the water supply. The quality of the water
is excellent -- and we test it regularly to make sure it stays that
way.
What is the hardness of the water?
Medium to Medium-hard. On a range of 1 to 10, it is between 5 and 6.
The pH ranges from 6.8 to 7.1.
How much water is in a cubic foot?
7.48 gallons
Who is responsible for finding and fixing leaks in my water
service?
The utility's responsibility ends at the meter. However, we can help
you locate problems on your side of the meter if you request it.
Do you test your water for impurities and, if so, what has
been the result?
Yes, extensively. Our testing program far exceeds state and federal
regulations. We test for pesticides, heavy metals, bacteria, volatile
organic compounds, etc.
Testing is conducted at various locations within our system and also by taking samples at randomly selected customer premises. Evaluation is done by both the Washington State Department of Health and by an independent testing laboratory.
We also take steps to prevent cross connections and backflow that could threaten the quality of our water supply. Our water is of excellent quality. It meets or exceeds all standards set by state and federal agencies.
