Outages

Most power outages in Clark County are caused by falling trees or limbs during wind, snow or ice storms. Others may be due to cars hitting poles, lightning strikes, or equipment failure on the regional transmission system or locally.

To maintain reliable electrical service, we trim trees that interfere with overhead power lines. Please help by letting us know if you discover trees growing into power lines.

While our aggressive tree trimming program is a big piece of our overall effort to improve power reliability, there are several other important steps we're taking, including:

• Converting overhead lines to underground lines in appropriate areas
• Continuing to make improvements at our substations (which "step down" the voltage of electricity) and on our "feeder" lines (which route electricity throughout the county) 
• Continuing to install "tree wire" on overhead lines to make them more resistant to contact with trees.
