Building and remodeling
Remodel energy use in kitchen,
bath
We're tackling a remodel of our kitchen and a half-bath this fall. How
can we incorporate energy efficiency into the project?
Energy-efficient steps can put
cash in pocket
When I did my taxes I learned that I could get a tax credit on the
furnace I bought in 2007. Does the utility have any incentives for that
type of thing?
Northwest
Energy Star standards save cash
What energy features should I consider when building a new home? I’ve
always purchased pre-owned houses, so this is a first.
Green homes
can be the envy of a neighborhood
My fiancé and I are looking for a new house and are very interested in
one that is built green. What features should we look for?
Should
crawl spaces be vented? It's up for debate
I was speaking with a builder friend of mine recently, and he mentioned
he was working on a new house in Cowlitz County with a sealed crawl
space that did not have vents in the foundation wall. Doesn't venting
the crawl space prevent moisture accumulation and help avoid mold and
mildew problems in houses? Have the codes changed to allow unvented
crawl spaces?
Location
is crucial for skylight efficiency
I’m going to be remodeling my home and I’m considering adding a
skylight. I like the idea of additional light in the house, but am
worried that a skylight might increase my heating and cooling bills.
What do you suggest?
Programmable thermostats can pay
off
I’ve read a bit about thermostats that automatically change the
temperature settings for the furnace. Is this a good investment to save
energy?
