AmeriCorps

At Clark Public Utilities, we have a six-member AmeriCorps team that plays a vital role in the success of our watershed enhancement and restoration activities.

AmeriCorps is a national service program through the Corporation for National and Community Service that supports many different service opportunities. Members are placed with local agencies to make the community and environment healthier and safer while increasing their knowledge and skills. Each member at the utility serves ten months through the Northwest Service Academy  rehabilitating local watersheds and becoming an integral part of a successful restoration
program.

The Field Team

The utility AmeriCorps field team is comprised of a team leader and five restoration coordinators. The team's service centers around

  • planning and implementing on-the-ground stream restoration projects
  • educating the community about watershed health and
  • engaging volunteers in direct restoration.

Each AmeriCorps member learns to implement salmon restoration techniques, monitors water quality and plant survivability, facilitates environmental education with local students, coordinates StreamTeam volunteers, and has the opportunity to learn more about themselves and the natural world in a team setting.

AmeriCorps members interact with a variety of individuals and agencies from the community. Each team member chooses a sub-specialty, which allows them to focus on a particular area of interest. Members receive extensive training and support for their individual positions and are provided various team training and development opportunities.

Benefits
AmeriCorps member benefits include professional development opportunities, a monthly stipend, health insurance, loan forbearance, and an educational scholarship.

If you are interested in becoming a member check the Northwest Service Academy website throughout the fall for postings.
