Call 811 before you dig logoCall 811 or 1-800-424-5555 at least two working days before you plan to dig and all affected utilities will send workers to mark their underground lines with color-coded paint.

Keep in mind that the locator will be marking utility-owned lines only, not customer-owned service wire. The utility normally owns the service wire to the electric meter on your residence. Any service wires to outbuildings (shops, barns, well houses, etc.) are owned and maintained by the customer. It is the customer's responsibility to have these services located at their expense.

You'll know we've been there because you'll see sprayed color marks on your lawn or driveway. The paint is water soluble so you should plan to do your work within two weeks of the lines being marked.

Each color defines a particular type of underground utility. The following colors correspond with specific utility lines.

Red Electric
Yellow Gas-Oil
Orange Communication CATV
Blue Water
Green Sewer
Pink Temporary Survey Markings
White Proposed Excavation
