How to read your bill

Electric meters are read monthly and customers receive monthly bills. Water meters are read every other month.

In addition to the payment stub your utility bill has quite a bit of useful information.

  • On the left side the shaded box displays information about the current billing period. It includes your present and prior meter readings, your usage for the billing period and details showing how the bill is calculated. The price of the "basic service charge" and the cost of each kilowatt-hour and cubic foot (for water customers) is shown with the calculations.
  • At the bottom of the shaded section you'll find a listing of each of the services you are being billed for, the tax collected for a city, if any, and a total bill amount.
  • The upper right corner shows a summary of activity related to your account.
  • Below the Account Summary is a section with figures related to your past usage so you can compare your use between billing periods. The bold type highlights your current billing and the "year-ago" period for easy comparison.

The back of your bill has additional billing and service information.
