Student Tours
Our popular student education program brings nearly 4,000 fourth- and fifth-grade students from all over Clark County to our operations facility every school year.
The tour features:
- A video presentation providing background information about the utility, the types of jobs employees do, and how power is generated
- A walking tour of several parts of the operations center including the warehouse, recycling area, truck bays and more
- A hands-on presentation of electricity and magnetism including use of a Van de Graaff generator (this presentation includes information on power generation, distribution, and conservation)
- A presentation and hands-on activities about drinking water and how to protect it through environmental stewardship
- A demonstration of the Hazard Hamlet, which teaches electrical safety
The presentations are geared toward fourth and fifth graders and all public and private schools in Clark County are invited to participate. Presentations are scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., October through June. We can accommodate two classes per session (maximum of 60 students per day).
Clark Public Utilities also offers a transportation reimbursement program. Upon receipt of invoice, we will reimburse your district for the cost of transportation to and from our site. Invoices from the bus transportation office should be directed to Heather Allmain in the communications department at Clark Public Utilities.
